A collaborative artist’s book project by Paloma Cain, Jonathan Cecil and Harry Reese. The text combines fragments from versions of the I Ching – the Princeton University Wilhelm/Baynes translation and Thomas Meyer’s previously unpublished translation – with excerpts from Phillip K. Dick’s novel, The Man in the High Castle. The large format includes three oil-based monotype prints, letterpress printing, scanned images and computer-generated type with digital output on Monadnock Dulcet text paper in a variation of the sewnboards binding. Edition of 30.

The poem, written by Harry Reese in 1975, has been recontextualized by Sandra Liddell Reese within a faux gold brick, covered with genuine imitation gold leaf. A Victor-brand rat trap is set into the inside cover of each drop-spine gold brick. Printed from handset Times New Roman and Franklin Gothic types on MacGregor- Vinzani handmade paper, and decorated with ten dead-rat paintings by the poet. This gold brick measures 5 by 10 by 3 inches, and weighs in at approximately 3 pounds. Edition of 26.

Unique book of drawings, prints and painting based upon the I Ching, and selections from the translation of Thomas Meyer of Hexagram 64. First part of a series called "The Book of Change," in which the artist finds coins on the street which he uses to initiate chance operations of the I Ching.

Drawings by the artist have been letterpress printed from photopolymer plates on kakishibu from the Fuji Mill in Japan. Black die-cut Moriki sheets are interspersed throughout the book. Binding by Sandra Liddell Reese with textured kakishibu over thin boards and copper spine relief printed with the artist’s name. Produced for the Santa Barbara Museum of Art and the Contemporary Arts Forum. 50 pps. Edition of 125 signed copies.
